CEU Course Description 

This course is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively recognize, understand, and address depression in older adults. Participants will explore the complexities of depression in the elderly, including its prevalence, symptoms, and treatment options. This course will delve into both medical and non-medical approaches to managing depression, providing practical guidance for healthcare providers.

CEU Course Objectives 

  1. Define depression and its key symptoms in older adults.
  2. Discuss the factors that may increase the risk of depression among seniors.
  3. Recognize the signs and symptoms of depression in older adults, including those that may be atypical or masked.
  4. Evaluate the appropriate use of medication in treating depression in older adults, considering potential side effects and interactions.
  5. Identify effective non-medical interventions, such as therapy, lifestyle modifications, activities programming, and social support, for managing depression in older adults.
