CEU Course Description 

This comprehensive continuing education course equips nursing home administrators with the knowledge and skills to provide exceptional care for residents with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Through exploring the causes, stages, and effects of dementia, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the challenges residents face mentally, emotionally, and physically. The course delves into effective strategies for managing ADLs and IDLs, de-escalating behavioral issues, and creating a supportive environment. You'll also discover valuable resources for residents, families, and staff, including medication management techniques, memory care unit considerations, and support programs for caregivers. By the end, you'll be empowered to lead your team in creating a dementia-friendly nursing home that fosters resident well-being and empowers families.

CEU Course Objectives 

  1. Analyze the impact of Alzheimer's and dementia on a resident's mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and financial well-being.
  2. Differentiate between the stages of Alzheimer's and dementia, outlining the specific challenges residents face at each stage.
  3. Identify and implement effective communication techniques to de-escalate behavioral challenges associated with dementia.
  4. Develop strategies to manage Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IDLs) for residents with dementia.
  5. Recognize and utilize available resources to support residents, families, and staff members caring for individuals with dementia.
